Evaluation

For this assignment I have been asked to create a short sequence animation, about any topic. The topic I chose to make my animation on

was Cut Out. I chose this topic as I thought that it would be the most effect, and less time consuming.

My first idea was to do Charlie and Lola, Driving around with their mother in a card driving past certain things and talking. I started by getting a car from the Internet I then went into Photoshop and had to make it look like my characters were sitting in the car.

I achieved this by opening up Photoshop, and inserting the car. I then selected the lasso tool and selected the back window in which I wanted the children to be sitting. Then I had to turn the opacity down in the window so you could see the children through the window. I then placed the children into place.

Now I had made my car all I had left to do was make the backgrounds in which the car would be placed and then move. I first started off with the first background, which was their house in which they had just left. I started off by searching the Internet for a house. I only house I could find with the right angle had construction work going on in the garden so I deiced that I would take it into Photoshop and then make my own garden.

This was the image I had to start off with. I deiced that I would add grass in front off the house and trees to the side, finished off with a fence either side.

This is my finished background. I have added other images in and them smoothed the edges using the paintbrush tool. I am really please in which my first background has turned out I think it looks very professional.

Next I had to start my second background, the idea for this one was to have a horse a field and the car drive past I didn’t have any problems making this background and it was very straight forward.

I then came to my third background, and then I realized that when I printed my other background out that they didn’t blend together and If I carried on with this idea it was going to be very time consuming as I would have to go back and change the other backgrounds, otherwise as the car was moving it would look very jumpy.

So I have decided that I would start a new idea I knew that I would have to be very quick, and maybe not as good as I would have hoped for. So now I had to plan my new idea.

For my new idea I am going to get pictures of famous people and cut them up and bring them back together in the animation. First I had to go find the pictures I was going to use. The people I chose were Muhammad Ali, 2 Pac, Elvis Presley, Marilyn Monroe and Bob Marley. I chose these people because they are very famous people and everybody will know who they are.

Now I have done my animation I am not very pleased with it as I think that it is too short as I didn’t have time to animate all of my chosen characters I only had time to do one which was Muhammad Ali. I think that my animation would have look a lot better and there would have been a lot more reason.

As I only used one of my chosen characters I think that my story had no point to it, as people did not understand why I have done this.

If I could change anything about my animation it would be to use a background, as I only used a black piece of paper. Also because I didn’t know were to put me jigsaw pieces I drew around them so that I knew were to put them, because of this I could see the pencil marks and also there was greasy spots. To make my animation better I think I should have used sound effects. Such as sound effect from a boxing match or something of the kind.

As part of our assignment we had to sit and watch the other animation of people in the class, then we had to fill out an audience response form. I was really pleased with the response of the people in my class, as most of the feedback was positive.

My animation was described as creative imagery and colourful. I do agree that my animation was colourful as I used bright colours, I used these because I knew that they would stand out because of my black background. But I do not agree with the creative imagery comment because I had to rush this animation and it was just an image moving.

Today I have finished my animation by adding sound and credits.

I have added the music to my animation using garage band. The music I have used is a song about Muhammad Ali. I used this music as I thought that it fit my animation really well as it was about Muhammad Ali and so was my animation.

There was a big problem in my animation because I have only used my first image and it was already 15 seconds long. I had to make a decision and fast. The decision I made was to only use one image in my animation, this was partly due to the time of my animation, but it was also due to the fact that I have only two weeks left, and I still needed to add music, credits and my evaluation.

Today I have decided that I need to add some text to my animation so I have went and got different lettering form the internet and add them add together to make up the makes of the famous people I am using, I have also got a little prop for each of my characters, such as a boxing glove for Muhammad Ali and a microphone for 2pac. Once I have collected all of my equipment that I was going to use. I am now going to start my animation.

Today I have started searching the Internet for some images of the famous people in which I wanted to use, which are

• Muhammad Ali
• Bob Marley
• 2 Pac
• Marilyn Monroe
• Elvis Presley

I have chosen to use these famous people as each and every single one of them are very well known and as soon as you see there faces people will know who they are.

I have know found the images I want to use, the first one I used was one of Muhammad Ali, when I found this image it had different stencils around the image of a photo. I thought that this would look really effective in my animation there fore I used the image. Once I have the image I then took it in Photoshop and changed the colour of the outlines into bright and bold colours. I then found my different images for the different famous people and because I wanted them to look all the same I took them into Photoshop and added the same stencils as the first one.

Today I have had to decide on a new idea. I have search the internet to have a look at some existing animations and also I have a look at some people from my class. After looking at some different ideas I then thought of my own.

My new idea was to have different images of different famous people I would then cut them up into a jigsaw style. I would then in the animation bring the images back together.

From now on all the work if for my new idea.

Today I have started making my third background. My idea was to have my car coming to a junction, in which they would then see one of their friends and shout of the window.

Before I started making my second background I decided that I would print my other backgrounds out and see what they looked like together, but once I had printed out my background and placed them together, I then realised that they didn’t match together, such as the sky was different. Because of this it would not make my transactions look smooth enough, as I wanted to make it look like it was a journey.

After a lot of thought I decided that I would start again from scratch, as I was not happy with the way my animation would have looked as a final product. This was a very hard decision due to all the work I had done already, but I think this will be better for my grades.

Next lesson I will be now planning my new animation all over again.

Today I have designed my car for my animation, I done this by taking an image of a car from the Internet. I then put this image into Photoshop so that I could edit it. For my car all I needed to do is to make my characters look as if they are sat in the car. I made my characters look as if they were sat in the car by using the lasso tool in Photoshop to select the window I wanted, to see them through, I then took the opacity down so you cou

ld see them. Now the only thing left to do was place my characters behind the window.

I think that this effect worked really well because it look very realist.

Today I have started designing my second background, the idea for my second background is to have a field, so that in my animation it looks as if my journey is carrying on.
This background was quite straight forward compared to my first background, as I needed to do was find a field, which was very easy, and to find a horse, which was also easy. My idea for my second background was to have a field with a horse in it and I am going to have the horses head moving as the car is driving past.
First I found a field on the internet which I was happy which and once again I changed the sky as it was too dull. I then went to find a horse for the internet. I then had to find a fence to, keep the horse in. The fence was the hardest part of the background as I have it had to be the right size and the right angle. I then had to take it in Photoshop and remove the background from the fence image and remove the image from inside the fence.

Today I have started designing my first background, the idea for my first background is to have a house, so that in my animation it looks as if my character have just got in their car and there journey is just starting.
I have a few problems when designing my first background as when I was searching the internet for images of a house I could not find a house with the right angle as I wanted one from the front, after a lot of searching I finally found a house but in the garden it had construction work going on, so I had to take my image into Photoshop and edit it, I done this by using the rubber tool to rub out the existing garden and then pasting in a different garden for another image. I then had to adjust it to fit my existing image, I done this by adding pavement. Once I had completed the garden I then add trees to the side of the house, a new sky as the other one was too dull and the fence either side of the house because it looked empty.

Today I have designed my storyboard for animation. I think that it is a good idea to have a storyboard as I will know exactly what I should have in each frame and what the end product will finally look like. I think that it is important to start the storyboard before anything else as, then I will know what to do next in my assignment.

In my new assignment I have to create a short animation using a programme called istop movie. My animation have to fit into a time line of 15 second to 60 seconds, also my animation must contain music and credits. Apart from this my brief was very open, such as I have to chose the style and chose my idea and also which type of music I would use.
My idea for my short animation was to have a car driving down the street with passengers, and looking at this and taking about things in which they see. I will make my own background by taking images from the internet and adding them into one big image. I will not play music for the first couple of seconds and make it look like the mother has put the radio on. I will ask a student from my class to do the voices for my character. I think this idea will work well because it is a fun idea.
